Power goes out at University Town Centre

GRANVILLE — Those who happened to be shopping Wednesday morning at University Town Centre got a surprise, when the power went out for about two hours.
At a little after 10 a.m., Mon Power confirmed the outage, which lasted until a few minute after noon.
Some businesses in the center, like Target, were equipped with backup generators, while others chose to close until the issue was resolved.
The Granville Police took several calls regarding the outage, which occurred after someone near the Chaplin Hill substation dug into a power line.
Jeff Straight, a spokesman for Mon Power, stressed that anyone planning to dig call 811 at least two days prior to beginning a project. This is not just because digging into a line can affect customers, but for his or her own safety.
“You can get severely injured or killed by contact with a live wire,” he said.
811 is the national phone number designated by the Federal Communications Commission that connects professionals and homeowners who plan to dig with their local call center.
