Preston Sheriff: two arrested after deputy finds meth

Two people were arrested and charged after a Preston County sheriff’s deputy found more than 3 ounces of meth in their car.
Alexis Kristine Spindle, 23, and Robert Lee Shaffer, 28, both of Masontown, were charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Deputy R. Stockett Jr. noticed a suspicious vehicle with its taillights on, parked in a field along Rohr Road. He turned around and made contact with the vehicle’s occupants, according to a criminal complaint.
Stockett saw Shaffer in the driver’s seat and asked him to step out of the car. Shaffer became irate and at first refused. When he did get out of the car, the deputy saw a needle fall off his lap and onto the ground, the complaint said.
Shaffer said he was on private property as he walked toward the deputy. Stockett then noticed Spindle in the passenger seat and asked Shaffer to put his hands behind his back. He refused and a “brief struggle ensued” when Stockett detained Shaffer.
The deputy then went to Spindle and recovered the loaded needled from the ground. Stockett’s K9 then did a free air sniff around the outside of the vehicle and gave a positive indication of illegal substances.
After a search, 88.2 grams, or just over 3 ounces, of methamphetamine, a large amount of cash and small bags commonly used in drug distribution were found.
Both are being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
