Police charge man with DUI in golf cart accident

KINGWOOD — A woman was injured and a man charged with DUI with injury and reckless driving after a Labor Day weekend accident involving a golf cart.
Preston Deputy First Class W.E. Crawford said in a criminal complaint that Adam William Grosse, 23, of Pittsburgh, was driving the golf cart Sunday at Big Bear Lake Campgrounds. He was free on $10,000 bond Tuesday.
The officer wrote that he was told one of the four passengers in the golf cart, Tara Moeller, 29, lost consciousness immediately following the accident. The deputy said her injuries appeared to include several broken bones in her hand and head trauma, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
According to the complaint, there were marks made by sliding tires in the soft dirt throughout the parking area that matched the tires on the golf cart. Witnesses said during a “burnout,” the cart upset and the occupants fell out.
The officer wrote that Grosse said he was only trying to turn the cart when it flipped. He admitted to having had “a few” drinks, marijuana and cocaine, according to the complaint. A chemical analysis put his blood intoxication level at 0.124. The limit to drive in West Virginia is 0.08.
Another man was injured in a separate accident involving a golf cart at Big Bear over the weekend, but officers were not called to investigate that. In that incident, the man reportedly fell from the cart and was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital.
