Spikes pound out 16 hits, nail Black Bears, 12-3

GRANVILLE — Delvin Perez tripled and drove in two runs, and the State College Spikes exploded for a season-high in runs in a 12-3 win over the West Virginia Black Bears on July 18.
The loss extended West Virginia’s losing streak to seven games, during which the Bears scored 11 runs.
At 11-21, the Blacks Bears have the worst record in the New York-Penn League.
State College scored in six different innings in the victory, including the sixth, when it put up three runs, including a walk by Perez that scored Wadye Ynfante.
It was one of three walks for Perez, who reached base four times in the game.
State College’s Nick Dunn had a single and two walks and drove in three runs. Alexis Wilson had a double and two RBIs, and Lars Nootbaar and Edwin Figuera each had three of the Spikes’ 16 hits.
The Black Bears had six hits and drew two walks. No one had more than one hit.
Winston Nicacio (1-2) got the win with a scoreless inning in relief while West Virginia starter Zach Spears (0-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game.
Michael Baird pitched four scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
The two teams wrap up their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. today, at Mon County Ballpark.
