WVU roundup: Baylor visits for 3 baseball games

MORGANTOWN — The WVU baseball team concludes its regular season at home with a three-game series against Baylor, May 17-19, at Monongalia County Ballpark.
First pitch today and Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., while Saturday’s Senior Day contest will commence at 1 p.m.
Tickets are available for at WVUgame.com, by calling 1-800-988-4263, at the Mountaineer Ticket Office at the WVU Coliseum or at the ballpark. Admission for WVU students is free with a valid student I.D.
Friday is the final Friday Night Happy Hour of the year, with half-off beverages from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday is Family Day: Four tickets and a $10 concession voucher are $25. The home finale is National Armed Forces Day, with $3 tickets for members of the military with a military ID.
Prior to Saturday’s game, graduating seniors Shane Ennis and B.J. Myers will be honored for their outstanding careers in the Old Gold and Blue.
The Mountaineers (26-23, 8-13 Big 12) are facing one of the hottest teams in the country. Baylor (30-18, 11-10 Big 12) comes to town having won 16 of its last 18 games and four consecutive weekend series. Baylor is ranked No. 27 by Collegiate Baseball.
Three games separate WVU and B.U. in the Big 12 standings. WVU is 8-13 and in seventh place, while Baylor is 11-10 and in fifth place. Both teams clinched a
Big 12 tournament berth and will play for seeding this weekend.
WVU leads the Big 12 and is No. 18 nationally with 86 stolen bases, and is No. 2 in the league and No. 15 in the country with 49 double plays turned. The Mountaineers are No. 3 in the conference with a .281 batting average and 29 sacrifice bunts.
WVU’s Kyle Gray is No. 10 in the country with a .707 slugging percentage. Gray’s hit streak was snapped at 23 games last Friday — the longest hit streak by a Mountaineer since 2009. A day later, Gray hit his 14th home run of the year and 17th of his career.
The men’s basketball, rifle, golf and tennis teams received recognition fromby the NCAA for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The four teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The men’s basketball team was recognized for the third consecutive year.
The rates are based on scores from the 2013-’14, 2014-’15, 2015-’16 and 2016-’17 academic years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the match-ups for the annual Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase, on Dec. 16, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
The tripleheader will feature Rhode Island (Atlantic 10) versus WVU (Big 12), Tulsa (American Athletic) versus Dayton (Atlantic 10) and Drexel (Colonial Athletic) versus Quinnipiac (Metro Atlantic).
General public tickets will go on sale Sept. 7 at Ticketmaster outlets and the Mohegan Sun Arena box office.
