Glass sale
Retired stained glass craftsman Dave Houser is cleaning out his shop and helping Arthurdale Heritage at the same time. Stained glass sheets of varying sizes, both Eurpean and domestic, will be sold for 50 cents per pound. There will be many colors and textures, in opalescent and cathedral sheets.
The sale will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Arthurdale Heritage. Larger sheets can be cut for transport, but please bring boxes and packing materials, as well as gloves.
Help wanted
For history buffs, serving as a tour guide for Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. (AHI) can be an enjoyable volunteer opportunity. Weekend hours from May through October are scheduled, and training is provided.
AHI says that not only will you represent the nation’s first New Deal homestead community, you’ll also meet many people from all corners of the country who are interested in this special time in America’s history. Call the office at 304-864-3959 to sign up for a training session.
Drug disposal
The Preston County Sheriff’s Office has a drop-off box in the front lobby that is available to the public 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. They ask that all pills be emptied from their bottles and dropped freely into the box, as this medication is put into an incinerator.
The department also has take-home bags that will deactivate pills, patches and liquid medications. These are also available at the health department and local senior centers.
The office cannot take any needles or pre-filled syringes. The Preston County Health Department, 304-329-0096, has pamphlets on the proper disposal of needles and syringes.
