Elsie Carvell

Elsie Scott Carvell,  90, of Morgantown, passed away  Jan. 11, 2018.
Elsie was the daughter of the late Thomas Raymond and Ruby Fittro Scott.
Elsie was a graduate of Victory High School and a member of the first graduating nursing class at Alderson-Broaddus University. She completed her graduate training at Columbia University in New York. She returned to West Virginia and worked as nursing supervisor at the Monongalia County Health Department until marrying the love of her life, Kenneth Carvell, who survives.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Daughters of the King.
Elsie spent most of her life in the Cheat Lake area, where she was involved in many community activities. She helped  establish the Cheat Lake Area Public Library and served as one of its first librarians. Elsie was also a member of the Izaak Walton League. She was an avid sports fan and loved her Mountaineers.
In addition to her husband, Elsie is survived by a daughter, Louise (John) Sweeney, of Waynesburg, Pa.; a son, Glenn (Kelly) Carvell,  of Acworth, Ga.; two grandchildren, Hillary (Jason) Shipkowski, of Pittsburgh, and Ian (Alexandra) Sweeney,  of North Little Rock, Ark.; and two great-grandchildren, Easton and Imrich Shipkowski.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret A. Hurst; and a brother, James O. Scott.
A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2 p.m.  May 20,   with the Rev. Michael Hadaway officiating.
